Kellie and Will at Beacon Hill

I got to work with this sizzlin’ hot couple a few weeks ago during a patch of awesome weather at the end of April. Kellie and Will hired me to shoot their May 2013 wedding and I can’t wait. As a matter of fact, Will is a wedding photographer himself! They were a ton of fun to work with and things just flowed easily. If you’re a wedding photographer in Boston, you know that Beacon Hill’s #1 spot is Acorn Street. We did a few different spots in and around the “Hill” then made our way over to Acorn Street (which is a private lane btw…watch out for dirty looks from the owners!). When we got there, there was another engagement shoot already happening there! We played nice and waited, but only had about 5 minutes of the best sunlight so I went to work and Kellie and Will made it happen! I used all natural light, no flash at all and got some great lens flare shots. I used my Nikon 85 1.4G lens and it rocked all of our worlds on both sides of the lens. The nano crystal coating minimized the glare, but kept some great detail….which is why we photogs pay extra for the lenses with the coating! Going to be a great couple to work with I think.

Marlee’s Bat Mitzvah in Framingham and Temple Beth Shalom

I had the pleasure of helping to capture a special time in Marlee’s life. Her family and I met up at Temple Beth Shalom in Framingham for some formal photos to remember her recent bat mitzvah. She was very sweet and seemed like she was confident and ready for the service. Her brother helped me and was really happy for his younger sister, he even helped me nail my lighting while I was setting things up. Thanks again for choosing me. Mozel Tov!

Emily and I both work with children and have known each other for a few years. Recently, she become a parent with her wife Jessica! The school where we work was super excited about her news. We are also neighbors living in the same neighborhood of Boston. I was lucky to go over and meet their brand new son Reid. I captured some photos and as you can see, they are smitten with the little guy

Maternity Shoot with Kirsten and Chris

I had the pleasure of capturing some great “pre-parent” moments with Kirsten and Chris recently in their home. Kirsten and I had graduated high school and even rode the bus together! We lost touch but, through the wonders of Facebook, we reconnected. She’s due in June and wanted me to get some portraits of her and her husband before the baby arrived. It’s been over 15 years since we saw each other last, but when you graduate high school with 88 in your class, then you pretty much know everyone She has not changed and looked fantastic. I also get to capture their newborn baby this summer. One of the most rewarding things about being a portrait photographer is building (in this case, re-building) relationships with people and capturing moments that only happen once.

Maternity & “Future Big Sister” Shoot at Breakneck Hill Conservation Land

I had the pleasure of doing my 2nd maternity photo shoot with Erin recently. She is expecting in June and is looking so happy and beautiful! Erin is a super mom and has been giving me some tips about what to expect since my wife Laura and I are expecting in September. Her daughter Bridget joined us and was a great model in the making! She fought off a cold to give me some smiles and had plenty of energy. I really enjoyed having the connection to Erin with her first maternity shoot when she was carrying Bridget. Bridget is now a very pretty little girl. I can tell she is going to love being a big sister too!

Larz Anderson Park: Discovering a new spot for photography

I got outside with my fellow photog Matt and we headed over to Larz Anderson Park in Brookline. The temps were nice, but the wind was pretty fierce. We took some shots of one another for our respective sites and both realized we needed a tan! The great thing is that the park is beautifully laid out. Matt likened it to a “mini Central Park.” Even though there was not one leaf on any of the trees, I could definitely visualize some future family and engagement photo shoots there. There are a few willow trees that I can’t wait to see back with their greenery. I was happy to discover it this wee. I have driven by it countless times, but finally got in there. I highly recommend it to check out, just wait for warmer and greener weather Again, thank you to Matt for the nice portrait!

Introducing…Giuliana Emily

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing some special moments of a brand new family. Carla and Tom welcomed their daughter Giuliana on November 21st, 2011. Carla and I had a connection since I had gone to graduate school with her sister Jenna. I had met Carla briefly 8 years ago at Jenna’s graduation. Then flash forward to 2011. Carla and I reconnected since Jenna hired me in to photograph her twins for their Christening this past fall. Lots of connections! Giuliana was a trooper and had a lot of patience for me and my camera. She was a natural and lasted longer than I thought throughout the shoot. Way to go Giuliana! I do hope to have the chance to photograph Carla’s family again and wish them well in the beginnings of their brand new family.

New Portfolio Revamped!

The update of my website, addition of this snazzy blog, and a total revamping of my portfolio is complete! It was about a month long process between getting new hosting plans, transferring information, PDFs, and of course my best photographs. The last 2 weeks I have been focusing on my portfolio. The last update I did was almost 2 years ago and I am pretty sure I’ve shot about 40,000 images since then. My lighting techniques have grown immensely with a lot of learning in between every shoot. Since 2008, the year I started my business, I’ve been reading both online and off with the good ole print books about the craft itself. As I uploaded both newer and older photos, I did a little editing to some before I sharpened and uploaded them. My new portfolio was a ton of work, but it also helped me to see how I have evolved and how my early clients really took a chance on me. A BIG thank you to all my past clients! Below are some screen shots of just three of the many sections of my best work. Check them all out when you have time.

Heard of Pinterest?

I just discovered Pinterest, an online pin board to collect all my ideas, other people’s ides, and photos of ideas. Have I mentioned it’s good for collecting ideas? So, I do have some plans and mostly will use it to collect inspiration and even collaborate with some photog friends of mine. I am such a visual person and instead of collecting link…this is much better. I also went through the trouble of adding a “PIN IT” button to the bottom of all my blog posts too.
